Cookie Notice
Last updated July 30, 2026
This notice explains the cookies and similar technologies used on notera.so, and how you can control them. It supplements our Privacy Policy.
The short version. Notera sets only the cookies it needs to keep you signed in, keep your session secure, and credit a referral. We use no advertising cookies, no cross-site tracking, and no session replay. Our analytics run in cookieless mode and store nothing on your device.
What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file a website stores on your device. Cookies are widely used to make websites work, to remember your preferences, and to keep sign-in sessions secure. Some cookies are set by us ("first-party") and some by services we use, such as our authentication and payment providers ("third-party").
Cookies we use
All of the cookies below are strictly necessary or functional. They exist to deliver a feature you asked for. We do not set advertising or profiling cookies.
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
__session, __client_uat, __clerk_* | Clerk | Keeps you signed in and protects the session. Without these you would be signed out on every page load. | Session to 1 year, depending on the cookie |
notera_ref | Notera | Remembers a referral code you arrived with or entered, so the referrer is credited if you subscribe. | 30 days |
__stripe_mid, __stripe_sid | Stripe | Fraud prevention on the checkout and billing pages. Set by Stripe only when you visit a payment surface. | 30 minutes to 1 year |
Cookie names set by third parties such as Clerk and Stripe are controlled by those providers and may change. See the Clerk and Stripe cookie and privacy policies for their current lists.
Analytics without cookies
We measure product usage so we can fix bugs and decide what to build. We do this without cookies:
- PostHog runs in cookieless mode. It records pseudonymous events about which features are used and where errors occur, and stores no identifier on your device.
- Vercel Analytics and Speed Insights measure page views and loading performance. Both are cookieless and do not build cross-site profiles.
- Sentry reports errors and crashes so we can diagnose them. It does not set advertising cookies.
We do not use session replay. We do not record your screen, your keystrokes, or the contents of your boards.
Local storage
The app also uses your browser's local storage to keep the interface usable, for example your theme, canvas zoom and position, onboarding progress, whether you have dismissed a banner, and a flag recording that a referral has already been counted so it is not counted twice. This data stays on your device, is not transmitted to us as a cookie, and is cleared when you clear site data.
Separately, protection against cross-site request forgery uses a short-lived token sent as a request header rather than a cookie, so it stores nothing on your device.
Why you do not see a cookie banner
Under EU and UK ePrivacy rules, consent is required for cookies that are not strictly necessary for a service you requested, which in practice means advertising and analytics cookies. Notera sets none of those: every cookie in the table above is required to deliver a feature you asked for, and our analytics are cookieless. There is therefore nothing for a consent banner to ask you about.
If we ever introduce a non-essential cookie, we will ask for your consent before setting it and update this notice.
How to control cookies
Most browsers let you see which cookies are set, block them, and delete them, in their privacy or site-data settings. You can also open Notera in a private or incognito window, which discards cookies when you close it.
Note: blocking the authentication cookies will stop you from signing in, because the Services cannot maintain a secure session without them. Blocking notera_ref only means a referral will not be credited.
Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals are honoured. See the Privacy Policy for detail. Because we do not sell or share personal information for advertising, there is no advertising processing for a GPC signal to stop.
Changes to this notice
We will update this notice when our use of cookies changes, and will revise the "Last updated" date above.
